RUSH: Try this headline from the AP: “Airstrikes Alone May Not Defeat Sunni Militants.” Now they tell us! Now they tell us! Even though we’ve been saying this for weeks, now that this whole campaign is up and running and off the runners, now they tell us that it’s not gonna be enough. It’s an AP story out of Baghdad.
“In their Syrian strongholds, extremists from the Islamic State group had been moving into civilian apartment buildings for cover days before the US and its allies –” it’s five Arab allies, ahem “– began pounding them before dawn Tuesday, activists say. It’s just one sign of the difficulties in trying to destroy the group by relying mainly on airstrikes.”
So it won’t work, folks. They’re telling us it isn’t gonna work. Air strikes alone may not be enough. I know I have a sound bite. This is yesterday in New York City at the United Nations. Obama addressing the Security Council Summit on foreign terrorist fighters.
OBAMA: This resolution recognizes that there is no military solution to the problem of misguided individuals seeking to join terrorist organizations and it therefore calls on nations to work together to counter the violent extremism that can radicalize, recruit, and mobilize individuals to engage in terrorism. Potential recruits must hear the words of former terrorist fighters who have seen the truth.
RUSH: What? It doesn’t matter. What matters is this UN resolution recognizes there is no military solution to the problem of misguided individuals seeking to join terrorist organizations. Well, that is terrorist organizations, misguided individuals. And there’s no military solution? Now they tell us, after we launch one? And here’s David Cameron, a portion of his remarks. He’s the UK prime minister.
CAMERON: This has nothing to do with the religion of Islam, the religion of peace.
CAMERON: We need Muslim country after Muslim country and Muslim leader after Muslim leader to speak out, as the king of Jordan did so clearly today, condemning these people that say they speak in the name of Islam when they do no such thing.
RUSH: I’ll leave that one to you, folks. It kind of says it all.
RUSH: No, no, no. I left comment, analysis of the David Cameron sound bite to the audience cause it’s obvious. What is this religion of peace? Come on, everything ISIS is doing is in the Koran. Can anybody point to anything in the Koran that speaks against what ISIS is doing? You can’t find that. Why would anybody think that the Islamic State is not Islamic? Britain has a huge population. Everybody’s walking on eggshells where this is concerned.
RUSH: Here’s Tina in New Orleans. Great to have you on the program. I’m glad you waited, and welcome.
CALLER: Hi, Rush. Thanks so much. It’s an honor to talk to you again. Yesterday, as you were saying, no casualties will be reported under this president with our bombing, and it jarred my memory of when I heard Charlie Gibson say one time during Bush’s Iraq war. “Well, as far as news goes in Iraq, there is no news,” referring to the fact that there were no casualties. I’m thinking to myself, “That is news.”
RUSH: I remember that. I remember —
CALLER: You know?
RUSH: Yeah. Yeah. Charlie Gibson intro’d his newscast one night —
RUSH: — by saying there was “no news” on a day of no casualties in Iraq. This is during the Iraq war. “No news today about Iraq because there were no casualties,” and before this thing started, I had made a list of things, or maybe it was the day it started, I made a list of things that I was gonna be looking for in the media.
American deaths counted up every day as a means of reporting how useless and unnecessary the war is. Collateral damage: How many Iraqi and Syrian citizens have been killed by American bombs? But then I thought, “No, we won’t hear about that, either,” and all the other things that we were treated to by the media during the Iraq war will be absent here. In fact, that’s still the case.
Although just remind you now, this is about an hour and a half old. CNN reported that ISIS has overrun an Iraqi army base near Baghdad. Up to 300 Iraqi soldiers have been executed. Not killed in action. The word “executed” is used on purpose. They’re essentially killed in action, but they were lined up and executed. All of this while we’re being told that we got ISIS on the run and our bombs are wreaking havoc.
