RUSH: The Democrats are campaigning on issues that used to be considered fringe.

Pete Buttigieg, the Mayor of South Bend, Indiana, is one of the gazillion Democrats running for president. He was asked if he supports packing the Supreme Court to give liberals the edge, by adding four justices. The New York Times reported that some in the crowd laughed, but the presidential hopeful, Mayor Pete, answered the question seriously. He said the idea shouldn’t be considered abnormal. That it is mainstream.

Former HUD Secretary Julian Castro is calling for a federal study of reparations for African-Americans. He’s also attacking Bernie Sanders as a racist for not supporting it. Bernie wants to write checks for everything, but for black people.

Yes, reparations and packing the courts were once considered fringe. But so was Medicaid-for-everybody with a 30-trillion-dollar price tag. And so was a Green New Deal banning planes, cow farts, and our entire energy sector.

In the past, adult Democrats, especially those running for president, wouldn’t touch these issues with a ten-foot pole. They wanted to be taken seriously. But, you see, these are the “new” Democrats and with this bunch there’s no such thing as fringe. The kookier, the better, because kookier is what and who they are.
