RUSH: So I checked the e-mail during the top-of-the-hour break and a bunch of leftists are trying to convince me to let this Benghazi thing go. "It's old news. It's not gonna change anything now. We gotta move on!" It isn't old news. As you know, what we are about here, is the arena of ideas. The express purpose of this program is an attempt to build as large a block of informed citizens as possible. That's the answer, if somebody demanded, "Well, what is your purpose, Limbaugh? What are you really trying to?"
Outside of the business requirements of this program, satisfying radio business requirements and being successful there, I'm just trying to create the largest block of informed, participating voting citizens in this country. So this is all relevant, and I'll tell you why. Yeah, they got through this, and they won the election. In that sense, it is old news. But the current iteration of this is to protect Hillary Clinton at all costs, because, in many Democrat minds she is the next nominee. I'll tell you why that's the case.
They realize the gold mine that they struck with Obama as the first African-American president. That makes him untouchable. You can't criticize Obama. He's historic -- and, as such, any criticism is said to be un-substantive and simply racist or bigoted or resentful, even. So they want to go for the next shot, and that would be the first woman president, the first female president -- and the same thing would apply. "Any criticism is sexist. Any criticism is bigoted. Any criticism is hate-filled!"
With these "firsts," according to skin color and gender, they think they're inoculating themselves from any criticism -- and believe me: Mrs. Clinton is owed, because 2008 was hers until Obama came along, and then they chose the young black guy and kicked her to the curb. When it was hers, '08 was hers. That was the deal. That was the deal for sticking with her husband and looking the other way or even helping to defend the bimbo eruptions and all that stuff, "the vast right-wing conspiracy" during the Lewinsky situation.
So it's her turn. She's really, really owed now, and so they're out to protect her. In fact, Joel Pollack at Breitbart today: "Democrats' Agenda for Benghazi Hearing: Protect Hillary at All Costs." The hearing is on Wednesday. It's the House Oversight Government Reform Committee chaired by Darrell Issa, about the Benghazi terrorist attack, and the Democrats have a clear agenda, and that is to protect Hillary at all costs.
Here's the pull quote from this story that is all you need to know: "Clinton's role in Benghazi is particularly damaging because it risks becoming the signature legacy of her tenure at the State Department. Despite racking up an exhaustive travel record, Clinton had few actual achievements to show for her four years as Secretary of State -- a burden as she contemplates her 2016 ambitions." So, ladies and gentlemen, Benghazi does remain at-the-top-of-the-Stack relevant.
I have a story here by Chad Pergram and James Rosen. According to Fox News, Mark Thompson -- a former Marine, now the deputy coordinator for the State Department's Counterterrorism Bureau -- is going to testify on Wednesday... Well, I don't know if they'll get to him Wednesday, but when they do get to him, he is going to testify that Hillary Clinton and a key aide, Patrick Kennedy, "tried to cut the department's own counterterrorism bureau out of the chain of reporting and decision-making" during the actual Benghazi attack.
"Fox News has also learned that another official from the counterterrorism bureau -- independently of Thompson -- voiced the same complaint about Clinton and Under Secretary for Management Patrick Kennedy to trusted national security colleagues back in October." None of this came out before the elections. Mark Thompson says that his "account was suppressed by the official investigative panel that Clinton convened to review the episode, the Accountability Review Board (ARB)," which is currently being investigated by the inspector general.
"On the night of Sept. 11, as the [regime] scrambled to respond to the Benghazi terror attacks, then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and a key aide effectively tried to cut the department's own counterterrorism bureau out of the chain of reporting and decision-making, according to a whistle-blower witness from that bureau who will soon testify to the charge before Congress..."
It is a devastating account that he will tell.
"Sources close to the congressional investigation who have been briefed on what Thompson will testify tell Fox News the veteran counterterrorism official concluded on Sept. 11 that Clinton and Kennedy tried to cut the counterterrorism bureau out of the loop as they and other [regime] officials weighed how to respond to -- and characterize -- the Benghazi attacks. 'You should have seen what (Clinton) tried to do to us that night,' the second official in State's counterterrorism bureau told colleagues back in October.
"Those comments would appear to be corroborated by Thompson's forthcoming testimony." So there are two people from the Counterterrorism Bureau in the State Department who are gonna testify that they were aced out; that their thoughts, their efforts, their work, their participation was cut. "You should have seen what (Clinton) tried to do to us that night." So it's quite the tale that has emerged in just the past week or so with the whistleblowers appearing masked, camouflaged, voice-altered on Fox.
"State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki called the counterterrorism officials' allegation '100% false.'" Now, let's remember who she is. Jen Psaki is the former Obama campaign flack who lied about the campaign knowing anything about Joe Soptic. He's the guy who claimed that Romney caused his wife to die of cancer and didn't care about it. She was caught red-handed in her lie by the Politico, of all people. She and Stephanie Cutter were both in on the lie. They both claimed they never heard of this guy.
They set that up, that entire premise that Romney let a guy's wife die of cancer, and didn't care about it 'cause all he cared about was corporate money and profits. "State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki called the counterterrorism officials' allegation '100% false.'" And we just had a caller ask, "How can we trust them?" You can't, with these people. Now, counterterrorism officials were bypassed. What this means is that Hillary bypassed her own experts, folks.
The Counterterrorism Bureau in the State Department is equivalent of the counterespionage people at CIA. They've got their own group in there, and Hillary bypassed her own experts. And we've been told that she never contacted the DOD -- Leon Panetta and the joint chiefs -- yet she testified under oath that she did everything she could to help the people in Benghazi. In fact, that's what she said right before she said, "What difference does it make now?"
She said she was so busy trying to save people that she couldn't be bothered to get to the bottom of who was behind the attack. That was her point. "We were so busy trying to save people..." Is that why the people died? Is that why a guy went in on his own to try to paint a target for military assets he thought were in the sky to help them, and there were no assets, so he ended up painting himself and the terrorists took him out?
By the way, Jen Psaki admitted after pressure from The Politico that, yes, they knew Soptic from before the ad was made, the guy whose wife died that Romney didn't care about. So that, folks, is why all of this still matters. They were able to get through one election without any of this damaging them. They're going to try to get through another nominating process and another election without any of this damaging, this time, Hillary. The express purpose now is to protect Hillary Clinton, to make sure none of this touches her.
