RUSH: Yesterday, ladies and gentlemen, I happened to pass along to you the information that Phil Simms (who used to be conservative) and Tony Dungy have decided they are not going to use the word “Redskins” during NFL telecasts this fall. Tony Dungy is gonna call ’em the Washington whatever, and Simms… Well, they’re just not gonna do it. They’re just gonna call ’em “Washington” during the whole game.

Well, the Hall of Fame has a very outspoken member by the name of Mike Ditka who still works at ESPN but probably not for long. Ditka was interviewed (let’s see here) on the RedskinsHistorian.com website by Mike Richmond. And during a discussion about this “need” to change the name of the Redskins, Mike Ditka unloaded.

DITKA: What’s all the stink over the Redskin name? It’s so much horsesh(bleep), it’s incredible. We’re gonna let the liberals of the world run this world. It was said out of reverence, out of pride to the American Indian, even though it was called a Redskin. What are you gonna call ’em, a brownskin? This is so stupid, it’s appalling, and I hope that owner keeps fighting for it and never changes it, because the Redskins are part of American football history and should never be anything but the Washington Redskins. That’s the way it is.

RUSH: He was not finished.

DITKA: It’s all the political correct idiots in America. That’s all it is. Hey, listen, I went through it. I went through it in the sixties, too. I mean, come on. It’s fine to protest. You know, that’s your right. You don’t like the word? Protest. You have a right to do that. But to change the name? That’s ridiculous. Change the Constitution? We got people trying to do that, too, and they’re doing a pretty good job.

RUSH: Yeah! Don’t just stop at changing the name. People try to change the Constitution. He’s talking about Obama. But Ditka is speaking up for traditionalists who know that when the Redskins were named the Redskins there was no intent whatsoever to insult. This is a manufactured — a manufactured — circumstance where supposedly millions and millions and millions and millions of people are all of a sudden offended.

I think it’s very classic the way the media does this. They present the story as though everybody agrees with them and everybody agrees this has gotta go. Out of nowhere! This is just the agents of intolerance on the march demanding that everybody agree with them. It’s the same thing and the same myth that’s propelling the Ferguson story. There’s a myth here that this nation is fed up with the name Washington Redskins.

There’s a myth that everybody wants it changed. There is a myth that numbers, millions of people are routinely/profoundly offended by it. None of that’s true. Again, we’re dealing with a politically correct minority intent on having their way, and Ditka is just speaking up for people who say, “What the hell is this? There’s no real issue here! Nobody’s really upset. There’s more important stuff going on. Leave it alone! Hope the owner hangs in there.”

Anyway, he works at ESPN, but I don’t know… I mean once this gets out, he’s at least gotta be suspended.
