RUSH: Yakima, Washington. Caroline, it’s great to have you on the EIB Network. Welcome.

CALLER: Hi.

RUSH: Hi.

CALLER: How are you?

RUSH: I’m great. Thank you.

CALLER: Gosh, they say it’s really nerve-racking, and it is. I just wanted to thank you for the two books — or the three books. I haven’t gotten the third book yet. My daughter has read the first two, and she came to me and asked me, “Who is this guy that wrote the book?”

RUSH: (laughing)

CALLER: So I said, “Okay, let’s go on the Internet,” and so now she’s reading See, I Told You So.

RUSH: Wait a minute. How old is she? Your daughter is 10?

CALLER: Yes. She’s 10.

RUSH: And your daughter is reading See, I Told You So?

CALLER: Yes. We just got it, and she has it, and I said, “Okay, then you need to do a report to me on it on who you think he is,” ’cause I listen to you all the time and she hears you on the radio. She’s a Rush Baby.

RUSH: Right.

CALLER: And she absolutely loves the first two books. You did an awesome job, you and Kathryn, because behind every good man there’s a woman.

RUSH: No, behind every good man there’s a surprised woman.

CALLER: (laughing) So I wanted to thank Kathryn, too, for having a part in making these books.

RUSH: Well, let me tell you: It was Kathryn who said that we needed to include the plot device in the new book of Cam, whose father gets deployed to Afghanistan and he doesn’t understand it. Because it’s something that afflicts… That’s a bad word. That’s something that happens to all military families.

They’re kids. Even though they understand what mom and dad do when they get deployed, they haven’t been able to come to grips with they’re gone so long. You know, they’re young kids. They want to be the apple of the eye. They want to be the focus of attention, and mom and dad are gone for so long. So it was Kathryn’s idea to add that, because we wanted to dedicate this book to the military and tribute the book to them.

And it was a brilliant, brilliant decision because we were able to combine something very real in the modern day, and also that happened in American history with the time travels back to the Revolution. That’s where Cam learns it is time traveling back in American history. And for your daughter, this is just great. To me, it’s cute “Mom, who is this guy?” She loves these books but has no idea who’s writing them other than some voice on the radio.

CALLER: She loves the characters and everything about it, and I do want to say this…

RUSH: Well, hang on. I gotta take a break. Ah, ah, ah, ah! I gotta say take a break; it doesn’t move. So don’t hang up.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Okay, back to Caroline in Yakima, Washington. You said you wanted to say one more thing.

CALLER: Yes, I did. Not just the military kids are getting the benefit of this, it’s the other kids too because they go to school with these kids. They know that their fathers are gone and their mothers are gone, and they hurt for them, too.

RUSH: A-ha. You know what? That’s an excellent point. Sometimes the way kids are, they can make fun of kids in that situation as well, in addition to empathizing with them.

CALLER: Exactly. So this is a teaching tool, and I wanted to thank you very much. It cost me a little bit of money but, you know, it was well worth it.

RUSH: Well, that’s what I was gonna say, it’s not that expensive, and it’s —

CALLER: No.

RUSH: — it’s worth so much more than what you —

CALLER: Yes.

RUSH: — paid for it.

CALLER: Yes.

RUSH: Come on, now, you’re not complaining, are you?

CALLER: I’m not.

RUSH: I know you’re not. Look, what is your daughter’s name, first name?

CALLER: Lily.

RUSH: Lily?

CALLER: Lily.

RUSH: As in the flower?

CALLER: Yes.

RUSH: That’s beautiful. Well, I tell you what. I want to send her an autographed copy of this one and the audio version, too, since I did it.

CALLER: Gosh, she’d love it. I have the audio of the first one, and we play it all the time. And she just like jumps up. You do an awesome job —

RUSH: Thank you.

CALLER: — on the audio.

RUSH: “Mom who is this guy?”

CALLER: Yes.

RUSH: “Who is this guy?” Well, hang on, Mr. Snerdley will get shipping information from you.

CALLER: I appreciate it. Thank you. Have a great day.

RUSH: I would love to know what she think thinks of See, I Told You So. A 10-year-old reading that book? That’s interesting.
