RUSH: Fred Thompson was on fire last night. By the way, NBC, you want to talk about editors and so forth, NBC has gone over the edge. They’re just a treacherous bunch now. Everybody’s running around concerned about, my gosh, MSNBC has gone so far left, aren’t the people at NBC concerned? Who do you think runs MSNBC? The people over at NBC are getting exactly what they want on MSNBC, and they’re moving a lot of it over to NBC. Last night, NBC, when televising George Bush’s speech, did not televise delegate convention floor audio. Bush paused when he was being applauded, but NBC didn’t carry the applause, so Bush was made to look like a doofus, like an idiot, had forgotten what he was going to say or smiling goofily, if you don’t have the audio. I think CBS and NBC did not even carry Fred Thompson. So you may not have heard Fred Thompson. Fred Thompson was on fire last night.

THOMPSON: What a breath of fresh air Governor Sarah Palin is. She’s from a small town with small-town values, but apparently that’s not good enough for some of the folks who are out there now attacking her and her family. Some Washington pundits and media big shots are in a frenzy over the selection of a woman who has actually governed rather than just talked a good game on the Sunday talk shows and hit the Washington cocktail circuit! I say give me a tough Alaskan governor who’s taken on the political establishment in the largest State of the Union and won over the Beltway business-as-usual crowd any day of the week!

RUSH: Right on, right on. Keep it going, Fred, keep going.

THOMPSON: The selection of Palin has got the other side and their friends in the media in a state of panic. And no wonder. She’s a courageous, successful reformer who’s not afraid to take on the establishment. Sound like anybody else we know? She’s run a municipality and she’s run a state. And I think I can say without fear of contradiction, she’s the only nominee in the history of either party who knows how to properly field dress a moose, with the possible exception of Teddy Roosevelt.

RUSH: This crowd last night at the mention of her name, this portion of Thompson’s speech, I mean they just went wild. They just went nuts. And the Democrats are out there spreading the rumor that McCain’s going to have to drop her from the ticket in 72 hours. Mark my words, the real question is going to be, when are they gonna figure out on the Obama side that Biden doesn’t cut it? You know something else I noticed last night watching this convention? Something I pointed out before, but it was really stark. Every speaker was able to tell moving aspects of John McCain’s life. I mean Thompson. Thompson told McCain’s story like I had never heard it told before. That place was very quiet. You could hear a pin drop, to use the cliche. Every speaker had something in great detail to say about John McCain’s life, qualifications, character, and it hit me when Fred Thompson finished his description of McCain’s five-and-a-half years at the Hanoi Hilton, it hit me, not one speaker at the Democrat convention was able to say anything remotely close to that about Obama. Not one speaker. We got not one profile. We didn’t get any character descriptions. We didn’t get any lists of achievements. There aren’t any. That’s the reason. The contrast here is just striking, and it was on full display last night. Fred Thompson, by the way, was not through. This blew the house down.

THOMPSON: The Democrats present a history making nominee for president, history making in that he’s the most liberal, most inexperienced nominee to ever run for president. Apparently, apparently they believe that he would match up well with the history making Democrat-controlled Congress. History making because it’s the least accomplished and most unpopular Congress in our nation’s history.

RUSH: Keep this up. We’ve got to hammer these people. We have got to hammer these people. We can be nice people at the same time, like Thompson is proving here.

THOMPSON: Now, our opponents tell us not to worry about their tax increases. They tell you they’re not going to tax your family. No, they’re just going to tax businesses. So, unless you buy something from a business, like groceries, clothes, or gasoline, or unless you get a paycheck from a business, a big business or a small business, don’t worry, it’s not going to affect you.
