RUSH: President Trump has been clear about what has to be in an immigration bill to get him to sign it. He calls them the “four pillars.”

One: Trump wants funding for the border wall. Two: he wants an end to the “diversity lottery.” Three: he wants to end chain migration. And finally, he wants Congress to come up with a DACA fix to provide a path to citizenship for 1.8 million children brought here illegally.

The Senate is now debating immigration. But instead of working toward what the president wants, a group of centrists calling themselves the Common Sense Coalition, have come up with a bill that ignores Trump’s pillars. It doesn’t end chain migration or the often-abused diversity lottery.

Now, we’ve been down this road before. Under Bush 43, the so-called Gang of Eight came up with an immigration bill that was so bad, it was weak, the House never even bothered to vote on it.

Polling data shows 70% of Americans want immigration fixed. Polls taken right after the State of the Union address revealed overwhelming support for Trump’s approach.

But if Senate centrists and liberals stay on this path to failure there will not be an immigration bill or a DACA fix. And they’ll deserve all the blame that can be heaped on them for failing America, once again. Unless they get their new voters registered, i.e. illegal immigrants, the left isn’t gonna go for it. This is the “say no” coalition.
