What! WHO Says Lockdowns Are a Bad Idea

by Rush Limbaugh - Oct 12,2020

RUSH: Look at this. This is from Townhall.com. It’s a column by Bronson Stocking. And look at this headline: “Oops: WHO Now Says Lockdowns Are a Bad Idea That Should Be Avoided.” Wait. What?

“The World Health Organization (WHO) has changed its position on government lockdowns as a measure for combating the Wuhan coronavirus. The WHO now believes that lockdowns have unintended consequences and should be avoided. ‘We in the World Health Organization do not advocate lockdowns as the primary means of control of this virus,’ Dr. David Nabarro, the WHO’s Special Envoy on Covid-19 told The Spectator. Dr. Nabarro then cited some of the harmful negative consequences of prolonged lockdowns that conservatives and President Trump have been warning about for months.”

Dr. Nabarro warned that, “Lockdowns just have one consequence that you must never ever belittle, and that is making poor people an awful lot poorer.” Bingo. You lock down the economy, you’re locking down people’s livelihoods. You lock down the economy, you’re locking down people’s jobs. You’re locking down their opportunity for increased enhanced economic opportunity. So, they’re nowadmitting, after all this time, they’re now admitting what we have been saying from the get-go. What you do is you protect the most vulnerable and the susceptible, which would be the seasoned citizen population. Everybody else, wash your hands, take all steps and precautions that you believe in and that you want to take, but do not lock down.

The quote. “We in the World Health Organization do not advocate lockdowns as the primary means of control of this virus. They have only one consequence, and that is making poor people poorer.” Why now? Why is this happening now? I thought Joe Biden was gonna win the presidency and these people were gonna be on the verge of controlling the world again. I thought we were on the verge of getting back into this globalist government that the United States was going to lead, that it was Joe Biden’s victory that was gonna make all that happen. Now, all of a sudden, lockdowns are an absolutely bad idea?

What are you gonna tell Governor Andrew Cuomo? What are you gonna tell Governor Gavin Newsom? What are you gonna tell Governor Gretchen Whitmer? What are you gonna tell that idiot mayor out in Portland? What are you gonna tell the people running the show in Minneapolis and in Seattle? They are literally destroying their states. They are destroying their state economies. They are destroying the large municipal areas in their states. And we all know. They did this to put the damper on a nationwide economic recovery so as to not benefit Donald Trump’s presidential reelection effort.

And now they’re admitting that what they’ve done has caused economic disaster for their own people, economic harm. We’ve been on the right side of this from the get-go as well. I’m still suspicious about this.

RUSH: This is Ed in Pittsburgh. Ed, welcome. Great to have you with us on the EIB Network. Hello.

CALLER: Rush, mega dittos and prayers your way, Bud. Hey, you talked a little bit earlier about the WHO, and if I heard you correctly, they kind of did a 180 on lockdowns. I have a theory I want to run by you and see if you agree with it. I believe that the vast majority of country doesn’t want to hear about lockdowns anymore. I don’t think people favor them. I’m wondering if the WHO is believing the polls, thinking Biden’s gonna win. If he does, he doesn’t have to lock the country down, which he says to his followers he’s gonna lock it down if he has to. Make sense?

RUSH: You wonder if they believe the polls thinking Biden’s gonna win, and if he does, he doesn’t have to lock the country down. So you think he doesn’t want to lock the country down ’cause he’s gonna win? He only wants to lock it down if he thought Trump was gonna win so it would be bad for Trump?

CALLER: Right. And the point being is, I think the country is — Biden’s been talking lockdown, at least he’s been hinting of that during his campaign that if the science said lock it down, he’ll lock it down. And obviously Trump has never really been for lockdowns. He reluctantly did it, I believe, when he did. And as a result of that I think the WHO is believing that Biden is going to win and then Biden doesn’t have to lock down the economy or the country if and when he wins, and as a result he could just say he’s “following the science.” I don’t know if that makes sense to you or not.

RUSH: What you’re doing is you’re taking this story and you’re trying to find a secret in it, and the secret is that it indicates they think — let’s see if I understand you — they think Biden’s gonna win. That’s what you think?

CALLER: And this releases him from having to lock down, ’cause I gotta believe his people are — I mean, the polls are showing that the vast majority of this country doesn’t want to go through another lockdown. I think most people don’t agree with the lockdown. So as a result of that Biden keeps talking lockdown ’cause he’s gonna “follow the science,” he then doesn’t have to lock down the country if he wins and he’ll keep the economy going to a certain — ‘Cause he’s gotta believe that the economy is starting to move along now to the point where it can’t be good for Biden, meaning the election of Biden. It’s gotta be good for Trump.

RUSH: Okay. I’m still not sure I get it. I’ll have to think about it. Am I right, you’re looking for a secret in the story that’s trying to tell you who these people think is gonna win and lose and you think that because the WHO says no lockdown, you think that means they think Biden’s gonna win?

CALLER: That’s what I believe. And so this way Biden doesn’t have to come out and talk about lockdowns or he’ll say he’s gonna follow the science.

RUSH: Okay. Okay. Just yes or no. I don’t know. I’ll have to think about that. The story is this, if you missed it. The World Health Organization now says lockdowns are a bad idea that should be avoided. And the doctor quoted is Dr. David Nabarro, the World Health Organization special envoy on COVID-19. And he’s talking to — I think it’s the American Spectator. And I don’t know that there is any popular sentiment for locking the country down. Maybe Biden and the Democrats have been talking about it, but I have missed it.

RUSH: Dave in Casa Grande, Arizona. You’re next. Hello, sir.

CALLER: Hey, Rush! Maha Rushie, I’ve been a fan since WRC in State College, Pennsylvania, and I have no idea how long ago that was.

RUSH: Well, glad you’re out there, sir. I really appreciate it.

CALLER: Well, my point… The reason I call is I heard a caller earlier talk about the World Health Organization and their concern with the outcome of the election. The first thought I had when I heard about the World Health Organization changing their position on shutting down the economy, et cetera, was not the election but the fact that Trump had turned off the financial spigot. They’re no longer getting the funds, and I think money talks, and the rest of it just walks, Rush.

RUSH: All right. So you think they’re trying to get back in the good graces of Trump?

CALLER: More or less. Trump or the U.S. administration, whoever wins. I don’t think there will be a problem if Biden wins, but yeah.

RUSH: Yeah, it’s fascinating. It’s fascinating. Our first caller on this thought that the WHO wanted to get rid of lockdowns because it had to do with Biden winning. You think it has to do with they want to be on the good graces of Trump. It fascinates me the way people think. I’m out of time to analyze it, though, today.
