Caller: Biden Sounds Like My Lib Family

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Let's go back to the phones. Charlie in San Diego. Great to have you on the EIB Network, Charlie. Hello.

CALLER: Well, good morning, sir, and it's real pleasure to talk to you. How are you?

RUSH: Thank you very much.

CALLER: You know, I have to tell you that in the last year I have basically separated from a lot of my family who is very, very liberal. They're southern Democrats and West Coast liberals, because that's where my mom is from and that's where my dad was. And, I was raised that way. (chuckles) I went to UC (garbled).

RUSH: What do you mean, "separated from"? What do you mean "separated from" them? You mean distance-wise you've actually left them, or you just mean idea-wise?

CALLER: Idea-wise. I've realized, through being introduced to your show and doing a lot more reading on the Internet instead of simply drinking the Kool-Aid, that my values really do more reflect the conservative base. And that when I talk about it -- you know, how I'm more in line with it, how I don't think government should be holding everybody's hand -- I think that the people who work hard and are successful for themselves really do make a difference in the country, I get the same treatment that Ryan got last night during the debate. And that debate pissed me off to no end. Because he humiliated Ryan -- or he attempted to humiliate Ryan.

RUSH: See, here the thing. This is exactly the point. I'm telling you, folks: This guy's proving it. The Joe Biden last night is who we see when we run into Democrats in bars or restaurants. That's who this party has become.

CALLER: That's my own family. It really is. You know what's worse about it is I look at the pattern of behavior from people. When I do debate them and they don't have a valid point, they do just try to steamroll you with these same numbers that are fabricated, that they're regurgitating, that they've heard from the media.

RUSH: It's not even that.

CALLER: Nobody seems to think for themselves.

RUSH: They treat you in a condescending way, and they start insulting your intelligence, and they treat you like you don't know what you're talking about, or that you're a racist, sexist, bigot, homophobe.

CALLER: (laughing)

RUSH: They will not discuss the issues with you. They won't get anywhere near it because they can't. None of what they believe works.

CALLER: Well, and here's the most frustrating thing, Rush, is I'm a new dad. You know, I'm 38 years old. I work between 12 and 16 hours a day to make sure that I can do the right thing for my family -- which is to have my wife raise my child not somebody else -- and my family is so against it. They think that she should work, you put the kid in day care, and that's just how everything is gonna get done. And when you need a little help, the government will help you out.

RUSH: What business is it of theirs?

CALLER: Exactly! And it's no business of the government's to take care of me or my family. I have a job!

RUSH: Do you tell members of your family how to raise their kids and how to live their lives? Who the hell are they? Look, I don't want to go there. If I start ripping your family you're gonna get mad at me. It's okay for you to do.

CALLER: No, no, no! I understand.

RUSH: But I'm telling you: What business is it of any of these people to tell you how your wife must live?

CALLER: Well, it's because it's not their way of thinking. I really want to have a traditional home for my family.

RUSH: That's my point. They're not content to think and live their own lives. They have to make everybody else comport to the way they live.

CALLER: Exactly.

RUSH: If they don't smoke, you're not gonna smoke. If they don't eat trans fat, you're not gonna eat trans fat. If their wives work, yours is gonna work.

CALLER: (chuckling)

RUSH: They're not content to let you have your liberty and freedom unless you do and live the way they say.

CALLER: Precisely.

RUSH: That's the Democrat Party today. That was old Joey.

CALLER: They really do believe, too, that the government is the source of success. Instead of me busting my butt for so many hours a day and putting out the work that I know every successful person out there has done and following in those footsteps, they want me to do it their way and become a union guy.

RUSH: Let me ask you a question.

CALLER: Yeah?

RUSH: The members of your family that you're talking about, you just told me they think government is the what? Source of success, you said?

CALLER: Yeah. They really do agree with Obama on that.

RUSH: Okay. Well, then I need to know. Do the people we're talking about in your family have jobs?

CALLER: Union. Almost all of them are union whether it's police, or contractors, electricians.

RUSH: A-ha. Did you say "carjackers"?

CALLER: No. (laughing) Contractors.

RUSH: Contractors.

CALLER: Yeah, they're all union members. It's a big, Irish family.

RUSH: Contractors.

CALLER: Contractors.

RUSH: I didn't know there was a union for carjacking, but I wouldn't have been surprised. Look, here's what I want you to do. I want you to do what the communists used to do to disprove God. The communists in grade school -- or whatever -- in the old Soviet Union, to disprove God they'd have two plants or two flowers, one in one pot, one in the other. And they'd say, "We're gonna take care of this flower, gonna water it, we're gonna nurture it, and we're gonna leave the other one to God." Well, the other one left to God would die. They would prove to the kids, "See, there's no God."

Now, I want you to try something if you feel up to it someday. I want you to go to these members of your family who believe that government's the source of everything and say, "Okay, why don't you quit working."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, government will take care of you. Government's the source of your success. Why don't you quit working? They'll take care of you. Isn't that what you mean?"

And they'll say, "Oh, no, no, no, you gotta go out and work."

"Oh, no, no, no, you said you don't have to work. Government will take care of you."

What it will come down to is that the government is helping them because they're associated with unions, think the government's giving them breaks or advantages or whatever. At which point you say, "You can't do it with a level playing field? You gotta have the government on your side and against others, and that's what you call the government being the source of success? But if you really think the government is the source of success, quit your job. Turn your life over to Obama. I want to see how that works. I dare you to do that."
