RUSH: Elizabeth in New Canaan, Connecticut. And I’m glad you waited. I appreciate it. Hello.
CALLER: Thank you, sir. It is an honor to talk to you.
RUSH: I appreciate you saying so.
CALLER: I grew up listening to your show. My father is a devoted and avid listener, and he’s actually who I’m calling on behalf of today. Raving Randall, as we like to call him, or Poppy as his grandchildren affectionately refer to him, raised the four of us kids listening to your show as we took our motor home on trips out West, touring the United States, visiting National Parks and learning about our country. And I wanted to take this unique opportunity to surprise him and let him know that his seventh grandbaby is on the way.
RUSH: Is that right? You’re going to give birth to his seventh grandchild? You’re announcing it here?
CALLER: Yes, I am.
RUSH: And you’re confident that Raving Raven —
CALLER: Raving Randall.
RUSH: Raving Randall is listening right now?
CALLER: He was. He lost his connection, but he will be. I know he listens whenever he misses it, he listens on recording later in the afternoon so —
CALLER: I’ve been communicating with my mother sort of trying to keep track of where they were, and they’re driving right now in Maryland, and they lost the connection, so he’s not hearing it live, but he will hear it this afternoon.
RUSH: Oh, that’s a shame. But, yeah, if he does the podcast, he will hear it.
RUSH: You’ve been waiting for the opportunity to announce this on this program? I can’t tell you what an honor that is for me, that you would use this program to make this kind of announcement, a seventh grandchild. What number child for you is this?
CALLER: This will be number two for me.
RUSH: Number two.
RUSH: And you live in New Canaan?
CALLER: We do. We were in Manhattan until about May and just moved up here to New Canaan, so —
RUSH: Where did you grow up?
CALLER: I grew up in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
RUSH: Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Rush Baby, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. I can just see you all in the RV, you’re traveling the fruited plain, your mom and dad had this radio program on, you grew up with it. That gives me chills thinking about how this happens out there, just sitting here in this enclosed room and imagining what all’s going on outside this room and I hear about it with people like you calling in with their experiences. I thank you so much. I’m blown away by that.
CALLER: Absolutely. I thank you for the opportunity, and I can’t wait to read Rush Revere to my daughter and this new baby, whoever they may be, and you’ve been an amazing inspiration to us, and so I was happy to have the opportunity.
RUSH: How old is your oldest child?
CALLER: She’s only 2.
RUSH: She’s only 2. Well, I tell you what, when we finish here, stay on the phone so we can get your address and I’ll send you all the books and we have these Liberty dolls, the dolls of the talking horse, Liberty, that your kids are gonna love, especially —
CALLER: Oh, my goodness. Absolutely.
RUSH: — the package that we’ll send to you just to get everybody ready for it.
CALLER: Thank you so much.
RUSH: No, no, thank you, Elizabeth. I appreciate this. I love learning these kinds of things, and I’m truly honored that you’d want to tell your dad the seventh grandchild is on the way on this program. I cannot thank you enough. So don’t hang up here.
RUSH: We’ll put together a little goody package here for you, get it out next week.
